Doug  Wiggins specializes in the skilled conservation of antique musical boxes, gilding, furniture and important decorative objects in wood, metal for 25 years. This includes looking glasses, convex mirrors, argand lamps, sinumbra lamps.  Doug  has received training through apprenticeships and study with a wide array of museum and private conservators, restorers and craftsmen in the US and Italy.

All work is warranted the first time using time-correct materials and methods: The best conservation adds value to your fine object in many ways. Doug strives to educate our clients in the philosophy of conservation - the preservation of all existing original materials while integrating modern elements flawlessly.

It truly is impossible to estimate a restoration project without seeing the project first hand and even then the work involved may reveal complications after beginning however fees will never exceed our initial estimate. Doug can provide written household appraisals for our local clients.

Doug  tries to spend several months a year in Italy working with artisans and restorers - gilding, chasing, casting, glasswork, scagliola and micromosaics, studying conservation and working. Doug  maintains workrooms in Florence on Via del Terzolle. There are enough clock men or woodworkers in Italy, but no specialists musical box restorers in the entire country. As a result, Doug  is developing contacts and working there as well. We are luckier here in the US and Northern Europe. There are some older restorers in many regions who you already may be familiar with.
